UMass Dartmouth Running Back Fatally Stabbed in Providence

POLICY & JUSTICE — Marvins Antoine, an 18-year-old freshman running back for UMass Dartmouth, was fatally stabbed early Saturday in Providence, Rhode Island. Antoine and teammates were at Mezza Lounge before officers responded around 12:30 a.m. to a double stabbing in a Wendy's parking lot on Charles Street. A 19-year-old teammate was stabbed in the head and neck area with non-life-threatening injuries. Police identified the suspect as Chukuwnonso Uzoma-eze, 19, a student at the university, who faces an arrest warrant for murder. UMass Dartmouth said there was no ongoing threat to the campus community.

Thousands Form Human Chain at Kennedy Center to Protest Trump Threats

GOVERNMENT WATCH — Thousands of protesters surrounded the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Friday night, forming a human chain around the landmark performing arts venue amid growing concern over President Donald Trump's threats to close or potentially demolish the building. The 'Hands Around the Kennedy Center' demonstration was organized by Hands Off the Arts, a group opposing recent changes at the Kennedy Center under Trump, who installed himself as chairman last year after removing previous leadership and replacing board members with his own appointees. Artists, including Issa Rae, Peter Wolf, and Lin-Manuel Miranda have withdrawn from Kennedy Center performances since Trump returned to office. At least 40 staff members are losing their jobs as the center prepares for closure.

The takeaway
The nation's premier performing arts venue faces an existential threat—and the arts community is mobilizing to save it.

MIT Calls for Higher Ed Redesign as AI Reshapes Learning

EDUCATION & INNOVATION — MIT is calling for universities to rethink how they teach, assess students, and structure campus life as generative artificial intelligence becomes increasingly embedded in higher education. MIT's Ad Hoc Committee on AI Use recommends that colleges adopt 'AI-aware' approaches to education rather than attempting to keep the technology out of classrooms. The committee said institutions should reconsider learning goals, assessment practices, and the role of in-person experiences as AI changes how students approach academic work. The committee called for strengthening face-to-face interaction, including scheduled technology-free periods and programs designed to encourage students to engage with their peers.

The takeaway
MIT's report signals a watershed moment: higher education must fundamentally redesign itself or risk losing its transformative power in the age of AI.
